To create the mold, the solid block is first filled with acetone, which naturally melts the synthetic materials from the inside, creating a void. The void is then filled with concrete and allowed to cure in a way that only a thin layer is affixed to the walls.
The remaining polystyrene is then melted away, leaving the concrete in the shape of a hollow vase.
However, traces of the material remain on the surface of the concrete, leaving a permanent reminder of its genesis and of the process itself.
