Mimante is a continuation of the research that started with the Sima sofa. Exploring the aesthetic potential of the same material, Steidl crafted a series of coffee tables that contrast the biomaterial with straight metal rods and planes to create unique compositions.
The Mimante series of tables are formed of disks made of various agglomerated materials composed around a complex metal base structure. Shapes and colors, which differ according to their material composition, float around the structure in almost painterly abstractions.
The compound material is made up of biomaterials or stones which play aesthetically with fragmentation while the binding material smoothes out any irregularities. The result of this experimentation is an object whose aesthetic follows the spontaneous and natural forms of the material itself.
