Povera
Dining Chair
by Antonio Aricò
2018
"“The project comprises a room that collects and reunites the essential aspects of an intimate and social Italian way of living: Una Stanza brings an almost archaic and primordial vision of a closed and intimate place. Each type of wood conveys emotion through its grain and color: rose, amaranth, palisander, ziricote and many other types of wood give life to Una Stanza.”
— Antonio Aricò
The Povera chair channels the timelessness of traditional folk furniture. The Povera’s form is almost a small sculpture that returns us to the past, to the roots of our lands, craftsmanship culture, simple materials and tapering shapes, which make it beautiful and unique.
A chair that seems to have always existed, the Povera chair is named after the Italian word for "poor" due to its simple yet effective design.
The simplicity of the Povera chair’s shape is enriched through the use of a Boise de rose, a type of Brazilian Toulipwood, with a small copper dowel inserted between the back rest’s mirror-image panels.
