Ritrova-Menti
Vase
by Daniele Galliano
2022
"I worked with enthusiasm to try my hand at painting on ceramic, indulging in the instincts that have always made me want to smudge the things that surround me. So, I prepared myself for a mechanical painting with only one intent: Turn off the brain, turn on the heart."
— Daniele Galliano
Much like his paintings, which portray themes from small daily rituals to raves, nightclubs, and large crowds, Daniele Galliano approached the creation of Ritrova-menti, his expressively painted vessels with a spontaneous and reactive method. Always steeped in mystery and veiled with a touch of melancholy, his work can be described as the meeting point between imagination and reality.
Similar to his recent Anything series, chaos erupts on the vessels' surface. Working with small terracotta vases, Galliano works by subtraction. After having spread the color in oil, he begins to explore the surfaces following the mutations and consistency of the spreading color, illuminating details, and shapes suggested by the surface itself.
The key to Galliano's process is letting himself be guided without any resistance. He merges his gaze with what emerges little by little, letting himself be carried away. The result is an extraordinary sequence of blurry scenes that can be endlessly interpreted.
